Observation: Littles in their Natural Habitat

I sat and watched my littles play today. Oh goodness. This already sounds like the making of a inward thinking, psychological post. And I hate to say it, but it just might end up being that. Littles do that to you, make you think inwardly, and observantly. Except for when I am exhausted. Then nothing is observant– Or coherent for that matter.

I bet I was thinking intently on them today because I got a good amount of sleep last night. Yes. That must be it.

Hosanna was playing with her friend in a land of imagination and excitement. Where everything is exuberant and fun. It’s how she’s always been. There’s no play to her except imagination play. One day she’s going to be an awesome writer.

Zuri had demanded my full attention while she played to the side with her ponies. And this is what we did; first we lined up all the ponies. Then we put them into their “home,” which happened to be fit for only 4 ponies, let alone her 12 that she was trying to house–must be all this community style living we seem be experiencing these days.  Then we would get up and move to another place in the room and do it all over again. And over again. And over again. And over again.  Sometimes she would hand me a specific pony and tell me I’m the mamma. But usually it was all about lining them up. And putting them back. And moving locations.

Now you know why I had all that time to think and observe.

I was thinking-why? What is it in Zuri that ticks this way? More of a mathematical mind? She’s never been as abstract as Hosanna. No, she’s got a more calm and collected yet solidly stubborn attitude about her. They’re so different. And yet so much the same. I think that’s one of the most amazing things about having littles. And then of course, I broaden it to think of how amazing human beings are. And how really awesome G-d is.

It’s all pretty amazing.

I wonder what season 3 will bring?

  1. replace ponies with cars or trains and Elijah could be Zuri’s long lost boy twin.

  2. That was so true when they played at my house too! Hosanna had a whole story made up around the snow fort we were building and she came up with the craziest things…while zuri was inside playing with lead with a baby-doll and she would put all the accesories in and out of the bag…and then she would pick up the doll and the diaper tote and walk around to the kitchen, set it on the floor, take everything apart…and then put it all back together and make her way to the living room again. They are so different…and Im so excited to meet Season 3 ;) love that name by the way.
